The 3.0
The 3.0 Bidet by Tushy is the top-tier washing experience in the bathroom. Rated as the CNN Underscored’s Best Bidet Attachment for 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Because bidets are still in early adoption in Western countries like the US, our overall goal was to bring a product to our customers in a manner that was educational and intuitive so we could positively change bathroom behaviors we have known since childhood. To accomplish this we focused on the largest obstacles that were inhibiting adoption such as installation, functionality, design, and how comfortable the cleaning experience was.
The 3.0 includes two configurations: the Classic and the Spa. The Spa 3.0 includes water temperature control while the Classic 3.0 does not. Both the Classic and Spa showcase features that make them easy to install, incredibly easy to clean, universally compatible with toilets all over the world, and give more control over the pressure, angle, and temperature of the stream than any other attachable bidet to suit the needs of different spray preferences.
With environmental impact being another one of our biggest values, we also put considerable thought into our packaging making sure it was completely plastic-free, designed using only recyclable and compostable materials while delivering a satisfying unboxing experience for our customers.
Since it’s launch in 2020, it is one of the highest grossing bidet attachments in the USA today.
Problem
Many Americans are unfamiliar with bidets and intimidated to adopt them into their bathroom routine.
Insight
In order to capture a first time bidet user, we needed to present a product that is easy to understand, easy to use, and matches their bathroom aesthetic which is where competitor bidets fell short.
Objective
Our goal was to create an educational product that could be easily adopted and create such a desirable experience from which customers could not go back.
Deliverable
We designed an attachable bidet that was beautiful, affordable, and delivered the best cleaning experience possible.
User and Market Research
Bidets have been unquestionably proven to be more hygienic than traditional wiping and to be more environmentally sustainable by saving toilet paper and in turn the amount of water used in the production of TP. Worldwide, about 27,000 trees are flushed down the toilet as toilet paper on a daily basis. in 2018, it was estimated that the American used around 141 rolls of toilet paper a year. Using a bidet after pooping has been shown to decrease toilet paper usage by up to 75% which would reduce one person to only 36 rolls per year effectively saving money, water, trees and most importantly your undercarriage!
Pooping Pain Points
We spoke with thousands of our customers as well as customers of our competitors to gather as much information about the customer journey so we could isolate the pain points and design around them. We even spoke with people who have different gastrointestinal conditions like IBS and Crohn’s Disease, those with food intolerances that cause frequent complications, as well as postpartum women who find wiping painful while their bodies are healing.
People didn’t feel clean after pooping even after excessive wiping.
Families were constantly complaining about how quickly they were burning through toilet paper.
Excessive wiping can be annoying and potentially harmful leading to hemorrhoids, skid marks and UTIs.
Toilets clogging.
Sometimes children are not the most effective cleaners.
Certain conditions cause sensitivity that needs a gentler touch than toilet paper.
Competitor Pain Points
There are lots of bidets on the market, but the few in the upper echelon that nailed critical features, completely fell short on other ones. We just couldn’t find a bidet out there that delivered the best in every category so we spent a year a half testing and destroying competitor products, prototyping our own, re-engineering every valve, tube, connection, nozzle, knob, switch, flange and screw to be absolutely sure we were bringing the best of every feature to our customers.
Intrusive and ugly.
Not compatible with their toilets.
Hard to clean with lots of traps for grime.
Did not cater to individuals with different ranges of mobility.
Flimsy construction leading to breaks and leaks.
Streams that were so wide and messy they got everything wet.
Awful pressure control that was less of a gradual increase and more of a 0 to 100 experience.
Poor installation instructions and confusing assembly.
Static nozzles whose stream angles couldn’t be changed
Design Requirements
Using our research insights, we derived the most critical design requirements we needed to hit our customer’s most important needs. We incorporated features like antimicrobial knobs, universally compatible mounting flanges, a steel-reinforced body, and upgraded customizable controls over pressure, angle, and temperature.
Slim and subtle profile.
Continuous smooth curvature, our patented buildup resistant flanges and self-cleaning nozzle makes cleaning a breeze.
Anti-microbial brass or bamboo knobs.
Redesigned pressure control for the perfect stream setting.
Durable design with steel reinforcement.
Beautiful aesthetic that compliments the toilet.
Universal compatibility design that doesn’t require special tools and takes less than 10 min to install.
Nozzle tilt functionality for the most precise stream control.
